Emily Hirsh:
Hello everybody, welcome back to the podcast. This is the final episode in my series this week coming back and I’m so happy to be back. It feels so good and so easy, which is a good thing to be creating content in a way that feels really easy. I am going to be bringing some changes. I have some cool ideas for the podcast. Nothing too crazy. A couple of the ideas are going to take a little bit of time to implement. but yeah during my time off recording, I really sat with and waited for that inspiration to return. And obviously the circumstances and things that were happening in the company was what was kind of taking away my inspiration but I did come with some inspiration back into this so you will see that in the coming weeks.
This episode to wrap up the series is probably going to be on a little bit on the shorter side, but I wanted to include it because it doesn’t directly relate to all the shifts and changes in digital marketing today and you know the new era that I feel that we are already in and the economy and all the things I’ve been talking about this week. But it is very important to me right now and I think I want to share this on here because I think there’s a lot to learn from it and it’s a mistake that I have made over and over again in my business and I actually shared it this week. I did a workshop for all of our private clients. They get a monthly workshop and I alternate different topics that I feel like people really need and and they’re pretty casual and interactive workshops so they’re really awesome and so I kind of centered it around this topic because
I felt that everybody needs to hear this. So in business and as a CEO, you’ve probably experienced many times over making a mistake that you can look back on and say, hmm, that probably wasn’t the best thing for me to do or wasn’t the right decision. And I don’t like using the word right and wrong because that is a judgment. And I do strongly believe that everything we do leads us to the next place. So can you really make a mistake? No, because that mistake is going to lead to the next thing that maybe couldn’t have happened without the mistake. However, we learn lessons right through these experiences. So I feel that a lot of times it’s not always clear when you’re so in the thick of it and you might be doing something that you fully believe is exactly in the best interest of for you and your business’s growth and then look back on it and be like, oh, I was doing that thing again.
And so for me, one of those big things is focus and not trying to do too much. And for me, a lot of times this comes from the fact that as a person, one of my strengths is massive efficiency and being able to do a lot in a little amount of time, like way more than the average person. And I’ve always been like that since I was a kid. And so I will, I have first of all, a not always accurate sense of time and how long something actually takes as well as how much resources it takes and so that’s just like honestly it’s one of the things that our greatest strength is also our greatest weakness and it comes into play in both ways like it could be a really great thing like putting on a live event that we plan from beginning to end in five weeks and absolutely crush it.
It also can lead to scattering my myself, but not just myself. For me more so in this season, it’s about scattering the business’s resources and my team and like what the business as a whole, as a unit is going towards. And in the moment my mind is so good at convincing myself that I’m not doing that. Like I’ll come up with the the reasons of like, no, I’m still focused because XYZ and I need to do this thing because this is why it’s important. And then I can look back or I have a conversation And it sheds a light on that. And this is also one of the reasons that having really good, solid entrepreneur friends, mentors, coaches is so powerful because there’s so much that oftentimes we can’t see because we’re so close to it. And for me, it was just a single conversation that made me go,
Oh, I have lost a little bit of focus and depth. So this is a theme that has come up over and over again, but I realized through a conversation and then kind of taking a step back and looking at all of my stuff, all my offers, all the things that we’re doing as a company that we have too many offers and It’s like so frustrating for me to say this because I’ve done this already before and then like convince myself that this time it was the right thing. But over the next month, you’ll see some shifts happen and we are only going to have one done for you offer and one done with you offer, which goes back to how I used to have it. And, it was not a mistake creating the offers that we did because now I get to take those offers and like merge them into one offer for each. And so therefore the offers are better, right? So that’s why I’m saying it can’t be a mistake because it leads you to the next thing. However, I realized that like when i when I looked at everything that we’re doing, it’s like it’s too hard trying to fit all of these in and promote them. And that actually doesn’t include my my mastermind in my retreats, but I do see those as separate.
So in this episode, I want to speak to this because I think that with the amount of noise that we all constantly have surrounding us and the constant feeling of we’re not doing enough or maybe we’re missing opportunity, it’s easy to lose sight of focus. So what I invite you to do after listening to this episode is sit down and get a very clear idea of what your top three goals are between now and the end of the year. Like what are the things that are the most important to you that you accomplish by the end of the year? It could be a revenue goal. It could be launching a specific offer and selling a certain amount. It could be something like launching a podcast. Like what are the three things and you can only have three and then take inventory. And and this is what I had my clients do in the workshop and I’m bringing it here to share. Make a list. Spend 10 minutes. Make a list of everything you are doing when you think about the last couple of weeks. Like list it all out. What are you actually doing? What projects are you moving forward? And not only you, especially if you have a team, what is your team doing? What are they working towards? What are the initiatives? What are the things you’re trying to sell? You’re trying to promote. You’re trying to grow.
And make a big list of that and then look at that list and compare it to your three things you want to accomplish by the end of the year and ask yourself if there is a misalignment there most likely is an opportunity for you to stop doing some of the things you’re doing. and or get support on some of the things that you’re spending so much time on that if you took that time and energy and you put it elsewhere, you would see so much better results. So when I went through this exercise with clients, many of them realized like, oh my gosh, I’m spending all this time. One of them was like, I’m spending all of this time trying to write my sales page. And when I look at the last few weeks of how much time I put into this and therefore how much money I wasted because I’m putting all this time into it and not moving it forward and not getting it out into the world, if I would just pay to get this done and then I put my time and energy in a place that is very beneficial for the business, I would instantly grow. And so it was this clarity for her. The other piece to this that I want you to think about is What, when it comes to growing your business, when it comes to your marketing and growing your business, what are the things that come super natural to you that you love doing, that you could do all day long that just to feel like your superpower? This could be writing, it could be creating video, it could be connecting with people. One of my clients said, client relationships, which lead to referrals. She loves that, like putting in extra time there. Like what are the things that contribute to your business growth that feel extremely easy to you? Those are the things that you want to build your business around leveraging you spending as much time in this place. And this is something I’ve seen with my mastermind girls because they come in and like, this is how I coach because I coach in a very custom way where I need to have a deep understanding of you and your business and then give advice from that place versus like, here’s the best practice or here’s what I did.
And you know one of my girls is so amazing at recording reels. And I think I shared this on another episode. So instead of saying, hey, outsource your social media, you need to add all these different initiatives and have a podcast. I said, I want you to actually build your structure your support in the way that you spend your time and your strategy around like leveraging the crap out of you creating these videos that you create. Because these are your art. these This is your magic. We need to amplify that. We need to leverage that. Another one of the girls in the mastermind is really good at planning out her marketing strategy. She loves it because she loves planning experiences and like event type planning. And so she’s really good at planning her funnels. And she had it in her mind that she needed to outsource all that, that she wasn’t supposed to do that as a CEO. And and what ended up happening was she outsourced it, not to me, but to an internal team member and it didn’t work out and she’s like, I was literally spending more time managing them than it would have taken me to do that. That’s because that’s her natural gift. Your natural gift, your natural superpowers don’t take you a long time because they’re easy for you. Whereas another person might be like, it would take me all day long to try to plan my marketing strategy and it would still be a a crappy strategy because I’m not good at it.
So the goal for you with your business, especially right now with how important the resources that we use and what we put them towards, is number one, leverage the crap out of your unique gifts and superpowers and you’re what I call your magic, your art. And the way you figure out what those things are is you ask yourself, what are the things that I could do all day long easily? Those things that somebody else might be like, oh my god, I would hate that or that would take me forever. But you’re like, I love it. I could do it all day. You want to align your strategy to leverage that because it’s 10 times more powerful. And then the second thing is the focus and and constantly bringing this back as a reminder because I can tell you from experience, if you are anything like me, it will be a lesson you will have to learn time and time and time again.
And in the thick of it, you can’t see it because you, if you are like me, are really good at convincing yourself you’re not doing that while you’re doing it. So there is a lot of power in depth. There’s a lot of power in being able to bring depth to a strategy, to an initiative, to your growth, meaning depth in the messaging, depth in the experience, depth in the offer itself. And that’s hard to do when you’re spreading yourself out too thin. And again, we we probably all know this, but we have to be reminded of it. So that exercise of like, okay, what are my top three initiatives and goals that I’m trying to accomplish, that I will accomplish in this time period? And What am I doing right now? And is that aligned with those goals or do I need to simplify? and And this also comes back to like, just pretend that all the rules don’t exist right now for marketing. Because if if you want to say like, I don’t want to post on social media all the time, don’t. If you really hate that and it’s taking so much time from you, I guarantee you it’s not producing the results that the time is taking.
And instead, where could you put that time and energy that would feel easy and feel exciting and feel like it’s leveraging what comes natural to you to grow your business? So that’s something to sit with today and learn from me. I’m excited to to simplify and make some make some shifts and it’s just so interesting because this clarity for me came from a single conversation. And then it was like all of these puzzle pieces just fit together and I was like, oh, I know exactly how I want to do the rest of this year. Like so easy. So, I’m not going to share the strategy yet of what we’re going to shift and change, but it’s actually going to be pretty cool. And yeah, you know, getting that outside perspective and getting someone to kind of coach you, I cannot emphasize enough how powerful that is because I never would have.I wouldn’t say never, but it would have maybe taken me a lot longer to see this because I didn’t see it. I was blind to it and I have a good feeling about this shift. And so does my team. So, all right, everybody. I hope you enjoyed the series this week. I am so grateful to be back and I’ll talk to you next week on Tuesday.
