Who are you to go after that next level… and who are you not to?
In this episode, I share reflections from a recent mastermind call about self-doubt, delegation, and the identity shifts that happen when you grow a business.
We talk about the stories entrepreneurs tell themselves, like “I don’t have enough time”, “I can’t afford that”, and “that’s just how it is”, and why those aren’t actually facts.
If you’ve been feeling stretched, overwhelmed, or stuck in busy mode, this episode will challenge how you see your reality.
Key Takeaways
- Why I stopped rushing and that changed everything
- How to challenge reality (and realize you’re its creator)
- The one shift you must make to lead at a higher level

Embodied CEOs don’t chase trends. They pave the way they lead from within. Move by purpose, unshaken by noise. When you are the source, you do not need permission.
Hello everybody. Welcome back to the podcast. I hope you guys are having an amazing week. I have been in such a groove the last, like three weeks where I don’t even, something just shifted and I made this decision. I, I think I shared this on a, on a recent episode, but like, it’s, it’s still going.
I made this decision where I’m like, I’m done. I’m done hurrying. I’m done overpacking myself. I am gonna choose space and I’m gonna choose to be just enough ahead of things that I don’t have that like I’m so behind panic, anxiety type of feeling. And I’m reading this book called The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry, and it is so good.
It, it does have a, like a religious foundation to it. So whether you’re into that or not, that’s not why I read it. I don’t think it changes the core message, but it’s all about, um, we’re all hurrying, like we’re all so busy. We’re all packed schedules and how in the moments of slowing down and. Not hurrying are the times where you actually connect with yourself, God, universe, whatever you believe in.
And without that, when we’re constantly hurrying, we don’t have that opportunity to connect. And it’s so good ’cause it’s so true and it’s so needed in today’s world. ’cause we’re all like most people that you talk to, how’s it going? Good. So busy. Right? That’s what we all say. And I just decided like several weeks ago, three-ish weeks ago, that I was like, I am.
I don’t wanna do that anymore. I am like early to appointments now. I give myself like extra time at the gym just in case it goes longer so that I don’t have to like rush out and get to the kids’ thing. My kids getting there early to practice. I’m ahead on podcasts. I’m ahead when I do webinars and it feels so good.
It feels like, I think what happened was I got to a place too where I was like, actually it was after the live event when I had that realization and I was like. If you don’t change this, you’re not gonna grow the company because the CEO of an eight figure company doesn’t operate this way. You can’t, so you better change it.
And I just, I changed it. And the thing is, it’s not that I took stuff off my plate. It’s really weird. We, we have done a ton as a company in the last few weeks. I mean, we’ve launched new offers, completely changed things around, like a lot is happening. It was like a decision and an energetic choice. And it made me look at my days differently, and it made me create like just a little bit more padding and, ability to not be hurrying.
Like I, I haven’t felt like I’m rushing or I’m late to something in weeks, which feels really good. So, highly recommend. Um, in today’s episode, there’s a few things I wanna talk to you about. Uh, they were, there are those things where it’s like, I’ve got a couple things I wanna talk about. Neither one’s like a full episode, so we’re just gonna have chat.
The first one is something that was inspired from one of my most recent mastermind calls. Which, by the way, the Embodied CEO Mastermind is open for enrollment right now. Um, this is a six month container where you work one-on-one with me. You get one-on-one calls, you get a weekly call with me where you get to go through whatever.
Like I’m really good at pulling stuff outta you of saying, okay, what are you working on right now? Like, looking at where the gaps are, what, what you need to focus on, whether that’s your marketing team, business strategy, like business model. I mean, you name it, I help. With that, um, you have unlimited texting access to me.
It’s six months of me, basically one-on-one working with you. Um, and it is open for enrollment. So if you are interested in that, you can go to embodied marketing.com/ceo and fill out an application.
I review every single application. If it is a fit, I’ll reach out. We’ll chat. I wanna make sure I can for sure help you. I have a. 100% success rate at growing both the business and the person behind the business. Um, and every single time it is, you get everything you thought you needed and so much more than you even realized you needed.
’cause it’s six months of time, right? A lot can happen in six months. So would love to welcome an incredible new group into the Mastermind Anyways, um. I’m inspired to talk about this because it came up on a really good call that we had a few weeks ago around the concept of like, I guess self-doubt, but kind of that little voice in your head that’s like, who am I to be going after this?
And I think it happens at all levels in business. Whenever you are facing and really pushing into something new, you have those thoughts, right? Like, who am I one of the girls on there? Who am I? She’s going from this like solopreneur. Um, she’s built a successful business, but now like she’s maxed out, she’s gotta go from solopreneur to having a team and getting herself outta the day to day.
And what that requires is you to go, okay, my, my time is now like somebody else is gonna do things for me and I’m gonna say I’m not doing those things anymore. And as she. Was going through this process of hiring, and I’ve been challenging her every week. Like, delegate, delegate everything. You know, look at your day and be ruthless.
Like, do I actually need to do this? Or can somebody else do it? Because you’ve gotta move into this higher leverage CEO position. And she was coming up against this constant, like, who am I? Like I, I didn’t actually set out to build this business with a team and to have this level of a business. It was at first just to like make extra money.
It was a. You know, a side hustle or a solopreneur, like who am I, you know, this small town girl. To have this level of success, to have this level of a business, to tell people what to do and to hire them and, and to give them, you know, things that I’m like quote, too good to do, which is not you’re too good, it’s that you’ve gotta have higher leverage tasks.
Who am I to do that? And another one on the call said, same thing like. As I go chase a seven figure company, you know, I’ve built it to six figures. Who am I to have a seven figure company? And I feel that sometimes too. Like who am I to have an eight figure company? Like Why me? And I think that again, anytime you run up against something new that you have never done before, your brain is gonna go like, what are you doing?
It’s, this is not safe. Like we should just stay over here where we have proven comfort and we’ve proven enough success. And who are you to do this? And here’s the thing, here is the thing. Most people in today’s world listen to that voice. They listen to that voice, and they stay small. Because they are scared of putting themselves out there, of claiming a big goal, of claiming a big path that most people around them couldn’t imagine.
You know? And when you’re an entrepreneur and you’re building a seven figure business, how many people around you are gonna actually understand? That’s why it’s important to get in rooms with other. Business owners at or above your level, but your family, your friends, you know, I feel that all the time. My family gets it now, and I do come from a family of entrepreneurs, but when I started my business and I was 20 and I had a baby and I was supposed to be gonna college, like that was my path.
I mean, most people out of care in my life were like, what are you doing? This is not a good idea, you know? And it was, yeah, who, who are you to think you could drop outta college and have a baby at 20 and build a seven figure business? I didn’t even think I could build a seven figure business then. Like that wasn’t even in, I was like, I just need to make enough money to stay at home.
And then, you know, it changes as you grow, but the level changes. What you believe is possible, changes as you prove yourself over and over. But you have to constantly be challenging. The way that you are looking at what’s possible and catching yourself in those places where you go, that’s not possible.
And this is somewhere that, this is another piece of what I wanted to talk about. I’ve kind of talked about this on the podcast before, but I see this so much and I actually get frustrated with my friends around this because if they do this, I’m like, I wanna shake you like this is not how it is, is when people tell themselves.
That’s not possible or that’s just my reality, like I can’t make that much money because I am already working as much as I can and so therefore I’m at my ceiling. Or another common one I see is like they can’t have it all. Like I am in a really, like I have young kids and I have to work, and so therefore I can’t work out or.
Whatever, like whatever scenario you’ve made up where you’re like, that’s just the way it is. And we have to be really careful when we do those things to say them as facts. We say them as if they’re facts, but they’re not facts. Like if you were to tell me whatever that thing is that you’ve told yourself, like, well that’s just how it is.
That’s just how my life is. Like I, it usually it has to do time or money. I either don’t have enough time or I don’t have enough money, or I can’t make enough money, and that’s just how it is, period. No, no. Don’t say that. At least say that’s how I’m choosing to believe that’s how it is. I’m telling myself the story that that’s how it is, because the second that you challenge that and you step outside of that.
Construct and you challenge it and you tell yourself, well, what if that’s not how it has to be? Now you’re giving yourself permission to think of different solutions. So back to the, the, the first piece of this, which is, who am I? to do this. Who am I to go after whatever that is, whatever that next level is, whether that’s seven figures, whether that’s hiring a team, whether that is speaking on big stages, whether that’s writing a bestselling book, whether that is going on a big podcast, like whatever.
Who am I? And my answer to them was like, who are you to? Not You are here to serve a purpose and you have been given gifts that have shown. That you are in your purpose, that you are good at what you do, that you have a mission, you have a impact that you’re here to make people, you’re here to help.
It’s not even about you. And that’s what I said to one of them is I was like, you understand you’re giving people jobs. You’re not taking advantage of them. You’re giving them an opportunity. And yes, you’re saying, I. I am not gonna do these pieces in the business anymore because I need to do these higher leverage tasks.
But that’s because you have a mission to fulfill. You have a gift you are leveraging, and who do you think you are? To not pursue that, like that would be the disservice. Seriously, if you have found your purpose. And you have found that place where you’re like, this is what I am here to do. This is what I love, this is what I am good at.
I am impacting others with it. Then you owe it to yourself, to others, to your audience, to your customers, your potential customers, to your team to go full send with that, right? And who are you to not do that because. That would be a life. Like I asked her like, could you imagine not pursuing this? Could you imagine like not growing and evolving and just saying like, well, you know, however old, you know, I, I’m, this is it.
I made it like, no, we’re not billed for that. That’s just, we would, that’s like death. Like if you told me like, you can’t continue to grow. You can’t continue to evolve, you can’t continue to, pursue dreams at a next level. I’d be like, what am I doing then? Like that is my purpose. So first piece to this is identifying where you have told yourself that story.
I don’t have enough experience. I like, I haven’t done this before. Whatever the story is where you’re saying, who am I to do this? Why, why do I get to do this? And really challenge that. The next piece to this is the stories that you’ve told yourself that are facts. So those, sometimes these show up together.
It’s like, who am I to pursue this because here’s my life and here’s my reality. I have this background, I don’t have this education. I have young kids. I, whatever the excuses are. And while I’m not saying that some of those aren’t real situations you have to face in life, right? Like having young kids is a thing that causes a demand on your time, but it is not factual that you can’t grow a business that be healthy, travel, pursue dreams because you have young kids and honestly, or you have kids, don’t put that burden on your kids.
Like someone said that to me at the very beginning of my parenting, you know, stage of what a burden it is for a kid to carry that their parent, a lot of times mom put on hold their entire life for a period of time for them. The kids don’t wanna carry that burden. Pursue whatever it is that you want in your life, the business, the health, the travel, the adventure, whatever.
Because of the kids. not in spite of or, you know. So usually this shows up time and money. What are the stories you’re telling yourself about? Scarcity? I don’t have enough time, so therefore I can’t do this. I don’t have enough money. I don’t make enough money. I won’t make enough money. It’s not possible to make enough money because, so therefore this.
All those things that you’ve told yourself are facts and are your reality are not, you are choosing to believe them as reality. And I do this too, and it is hard to catch this. Let me tell you, I’ll tell you guys a story. There was about two years ago I was at a retreat and I was in a, a spot in the business where cashflow was tight and I was feeling that, um.
Every two week payroll rat race, if you know, you know, and I was overwhelmed too. I was like, I, you know, I have to do all these things. I can’t stop doing these things because I have to make payroll. And like the story that I kept telling myself is like, I have to keep doing this because I have to make payroll.
And I was sitting there at the retreat and, and sharing with like in a, in a group exercise. And, um, the facilitator said, stop, stop saying that as if it’s a fact. Stop saying I have to do X because I have to make payroll. Because by doing that, you’re limiting the possibilities. Like, yes, we have to make payroll obviously, but by saying I have to do this to make payroll and I can’t stop this because I have to make payroll.
That’s not true. That’s not reality. That’s my, that was my reality that I believed was true at the time, but. It wasn’t reality and it was closing me off to ideas. And so it’s really hard to catch this because you truly believe that it is reality. When you say it, you’re like, don’t challenge this ’cause you’re crazy.
Um, I have a friend who, who also like right now, is in a place where they are constantly. Packed. Their schedule is packed. They, they never have enough time. They, they are resentful from it. They wanna be able to train and work out. They can’t. They have kids, they have a lot of work to do, and they’re in this reality.
And I keep saying to them, like, you create your reality. You are creating this. And I know it’s so hard to see when you’re in it. I know, I know it feels impossible, but there is a different way. And the thing is, you are choosing this and so you can’t blame anybody else because you are choosing this. So the other piece to this is like, where are the places that you’ve told yourself are absolutes?
Especially when it comes to time and money. You don’t have time for X, Y, z. Don’t have enough money for this. You won’t have enough money for this. Whatever that is, challenge the crap out of those things because instead shifted of, I’m telling myself the story or I’m choosing to believe this. You know, I think at the, at the beginning, I shared how I, I’ve kind of like stopped hurrying, right?
I’ve stopped doing things last minute. There will always be a magic for me on. On doing something under pressure, I think maybe not. There’s a statement. I don’t need to say that anyways. If you would’ve asked me two months ago, I would’ve said, that’s just how I work. I have to do things last minute. I have to do my webinars right up until the point that the webinars start.
That’s how I do my best work. I have so much going on. I have to cram everything in my days. And until I was like, do you really. Can you still get the same amount done and show up how you need to show up and not operate that way? Let’s try. It’s until you choose to change the belief that it will change.
So if you’ve told yourself, I can’t, I can’t hire a coach, I can’t join that mastermind. I can’t afford Facebook ads, I can’t sell my offer without a sales call, whatever. All those things, like seriously do an exercise where you write them all down because those will all be true as long as you believe they’re true.
That’s how powerful we are. That is how powerful we are because the second you decide it’s not the truth, your brain will start finding the solutions and finding the different ways. So two pieces to this. First, look at the places where you have said, who am I to do this? I can’t have that. I can’t do that.
I can’t delegate that. I can’t have that help. I see this, I really do see this come up a lot with either starting a business because you’re choosing such a different path, and then hiring team. I see a lot of of entrepreneurs have guilt around, for whatever reason, making other people do something than they used to do.
It’s like they, they think it means like, I’m too good and. I don’t really have that, maybe because I’ve practiced it so much, but it’s like you’re giving them an opportunity. You, you are giving somebody, you’re not asking them to do it for free. And you have to value your time that way to, to be a CEO.
And especially if you wanna grow to new levels, like you have to value your time and your energy, and you have to radically protect it. So that’s the first thing. And the second thing is what are all those beliefs that you have said are facts when they’re not facts that are dictating your life and your business right now because you’ve told yourself there is no other way or this is how it is.
And challenge the crap out of those and, and go. Just like you don’t even need the solution. That’s what I did with, with you know, rushing around and being last minute is I just challenged myself and I was like, what if it didn’t have to be that way? What if it didn’t? And I didn’t even have to have a whole plan, but I challenged it and was just like, what if it didn’t?
My friend who I was just talking to yesterday, who was saying like, it’s just a season of life I’m in. I have young kids and I’m working a ton and I can’t train. And I was like, what if you could. and I’m, and I will say, people who are not ready to hear this, they might get mad and I tell my friends like, I’m sorry, but if you’re friends with me, I’m gonna be honest with you.
I might trigger you because the, you’re triggered by the fact that you realize you’re causing this. But sometimes when I say this to people, they do get a little like frustrated because it puts it back on you. It’s like it’s not because of these external things. It’s not because of your kids or your financial situation or your partner or whatever.
And once you let go of, of saying that, that’s whose fault it is. The only person left to take their responsibility is you, which is hard and the most empowering thing that you can realize because then you’re like, anything, anything is possible, I can change anything. So really challenge that reality that you’ve said is reality and question it, especially if it’s something that you wanna change.
You know, and it’s not like, oh, I’ll change this once my kids are this age, or once I hit this revenue number once I do da, da, da. No, now. Now if you wanna prioritize your health, do it now. If you want to build your business and work a certain amount in your business, and you have young kids, do it now, how can you make it possible?
And don’t sit here and go, oh, I don’t have the resources to hire help. Okay, do a trade, like ask for help. There’s always a way. The second you start coming up with excuses, you’re back in that space. You’re back allowing your brain to go, oh, I can’t do it, because then that’s what the brain’s gonna do.
You’re like, no, we’re gonna find a solution. And I’m really grateful, like my parents taught me this as a kid for sure. Just by who they are, because it has made me, I, I don’t accept that. Like if you tell me, oh no, you can’t have this and that, I’m like, yeah, watch me. I can. I can. So those are the two things for today for you to think about.
Challenge your perspective, challenge your reality. It just takes like one shift like this for you to realize, oh my gosh, I could change all of this just by shifting my perspective. Just by shifting what I have told myself is reality. It is truth when it’s really not. Alright everybody, thank you so much for tuning into today’s episode.
Have an amazing rest of your week and I’ll talk to you guys next week.
