Whether you’re coaching, managing a team, or building a business, it’s so important to find the balance between personal growth, stillness, and the hustle of leading others. I have learned, especially over the past 6 months stepping into this new phase of my business, that if you want to give your audience a truly transformative experience, you have to have aligned energy, lead with integrity and intention, and be constantly evolving. In this episode, I’m sharing HOW I’m focusing my efforts on this and taking massive accountability as a CEO.
We’ll dive into:
- Understanding the integrity and responsibility that comes with being a leader and how personal growth directly impacts your ability to lead.
- Exploring how personal practices like stillness, meditation, and personal work are vital for maintaining the capacity to lead effectively.
- The necessity of alternating between seasons of learning and teaching, and how each season enhances your skills and ability to impact others.
… and so much more.
Strategy and tactical action is crucial for being able to deliver and get your customers results, but if you are not doing the work on yourself and pushing yourself to be in the CEO leadership role, you’ll only be able to take them so far.

Emily Hirsh:
Hello everybody, welcome back to the podcast. Can you believe we are in June like what the actual heck I feel like everybody feels this way and says these things but seriously. It was just the holidays and now we’re almost halfway through this year. I am just constantly amazed at how fast time really does go and it just shows you like time is the only asset that we do not have unlimited of time and energy. And being intentional with your time and energy is so important because if you’re not before you know it. It’s passed by or it’s been put in areas you didn’t want it to go and you can’t get that back. So it’s just I’m like first of all, it’s summer here. So I’m planning our summer. We always leave for at least six weeks and I kind of am like where should we go? Let’s pull it out of a hat and decide like there’s so many places that we could go and so we’re working on that plan but we had a pretty epic summer last year and so it’s like all right? How do we top last summer because it was pretty epic. Okay, today’s podcast was inspired by something that I was thinking about this last week because it’s just not a new concept but a different perspective to a concept that I’ve.
Thought about for a while and it kind of formed into something I wanted to talk about because I think it’s something really important for leaders to think about and I know that a lot of you who listen to this podcast maybe are in the space of coaching and you have. Either customers or your audience students who look up to you right? as a leader or maybe that’s what you want as a leader and you want to build that impact and you want to build that potential that comes with being able to impact people. Leveraging your gifts and your experience and you know your unique soul that you are and I think there’s a lot of integrity and responsibility that comes with that level of leadership and I think. Sometimes unintentionally that gets lost sometimes intentionally but I would say a lot of times unintentionally that integrity and intention can get lost when you mix in being a leader and growing a business. So I’m gonna explain what I mean so I’ve. Definitely stepped into a different arena of impact in the last six months between my events and my retreats that I’ve hosted my mastermind. It’s a different impact and a different.
Experience that I have as a leader because now I’m directly 1 on one coaching and supporting entrepreneurs with yes, their business and their marketing. But so far beyond that like if I look at my event and I look at the retreat. And if you’ve ever been to an event or a treat you’re going to know this and if you haven’t you’re not really going to know this because you don’t really know until you know, but you realize that through these experiences the real work in growing your business starts with you hands down one hundred percent you can disagree with me but it is the truth. Because if you don’t shift your beliefs and your thoughts and how you show up and how you lead even if your company doesn’t have a team yet, you’re going to stay in the exact same place that you are today like growing a business is the. Biggest personal development journey you could ever go on because in order for your business to grow. You have to constantly rebirth yourself if you want to have a business that’s this next level. Whatever that is to you whether at the 6 figure 7 figure 8 figure business. You literally cannot be the same person you are today and have that business you have to evolve and we’re all always evolving. We can deny that we can resist that but we’re evolving and going on the journey as an entrepreneur is a massive.
Personal development opportunity and experience whether you like it or not and so a lot of times people look to the tactics and the strategies and think that the answer is only there. Those are definitely important parts of business growth like. You need good tactics. You need good strategy. You need a good customer journey. You need a good offer and those can come from strategic tactical components but you also have to have aligned energy and you have to show up as a leader. Who leads with integrity who leads with intention who constantly is evolving your own beliefs so that you can move into that next level. That is something I have learned the hard way because I didn’t believe it. I didn’t believe it until maybe. October of last year when I went to my first retreat. So with this I’ve had a different level of responsibility because when I host these retreats in my mastermind in these events we are going so much deeper than marketing. We’re talking about marketing. We’re talking about strategy. But I’m talking bringing up. Traumas that come up through breathwork sessions or looking at beliefs that have been within someone for thirty plus years like really deep stuff and for the first time as I facilitated these things the last six months I have
Experienced what it’s like to be on the other end of that and to facilitate that transformation and this is only going to make sense Probably if you have been in this situation and if you have you’re probably going to really understand it. But you realize when you’re in that situation. How important your own energy and growth and capacity becomes because you literally can’t facilitate transformation and an experience like that if you are not. In the place where you have the capacity to do so now I could get on here and I could get on a webinar and I could show up in my business before and and honestly not have full capacity like I could be slacking on my stillness practices I could be slacking on my own. Working through things and my beliefs and my own personal development and probably still have a successful marketing company for so long then when you have a big enough team and you need to start getting into leadership and coaching like that’s all it is right everywhere between. Me and team me and clients my team and clients me and my mastermind members like it’s all just supporting humans with going through the learn life experience which we all have things so through this experience I’ve realized how absolutely critical it is.
For me to do the work and have the boundaries and the discipline and the commitment to my own personal growth and my own personal development and also making sure I have capacity. How do you create capacity? Well in my opinion you create that through stillness you create that through white space you create that through not jampacking your schedule as a leader so you don’t even have a second to think right? and if I don’t have that I cannot show up within integrity for. The women in my mastermind in my retreats who I’m holding this experience for and this really became clear to me in my retreat because it was an incredible experience and I realized afterwards you know I have. Basically I had two and a half weeks between that retreat in Alaska and I was like I feel so deeply that I need to create the space for me to do some work and do some long meditations microdose like. Do a session with my own mentor who does somatic therapy with me do all of these things in between so I can show up within that full integrity and within that space so that’s kind of like part one that I want to talk about because this is also true. Even if you’re not.
You know, running a masterminer running retreats. This is true. This is true for my team, like if I think about if I am jam-packing my schedule and I am so busy and I have so much noise and I’m not thinking clearly and I’m not making time for my stillness practice and my own work. Then how can I show up for my team? How can I have the capacity to lead and fully show up for my team? You could say the same thing for your audience. I think you can get away with it more when you don’t have 1 on 1 interactions like I think I could and I did get away with jam packing my schedule and living in a state of. Constant noise when I had a small team and my responsibility was show up on this podcast show up in Webinars I think when you get into more of these deeper relationships that are a must in business whether it’s with clients or team. You. You have to have that space like that energy. So the second part to this that I was thinking about is that as a leader I believe it’s really important to have. I want to say write because I don’t think there’s a specific formula to this but an intentional balance between being and doing and learning and teaching.
And so this is really what I wanted to bring to this episode because it was a realization that I had was let’s see if I can put this into words that really really land. I realized that for the last like seven to eight months whatever I keep saying is like six months and then time goes by. Since October and I really started on this new and different path I’ve done a tremendous amount of work. I’ve invested personally in over $50000 in growth and support whether that’s through a mastermind I was in retreats that I went to. And experiences I had or working 1 on one with a very powerful somatic bodyworker in Austin so I’ve invested a ton right? and that honestly like that it’s not about the money investment. It’s about the outcome those investments gave me an extremely fast path to a larger capacity and ability and really skill that I now have to. Create the same experience for others and I’m not saying like me directly doing breath work but facilitating the journey to walk the same path to walk the path of coming back to your body coming back to your wisdom, understanding the balance, especially for women between the masculine and the feminine right.
All the work that I did during that season is what has created the ability for me to do the things I’ve recently done and I’ve had myself believe this and multiple friends of mine who have witnessed me in this journey and known me for a long time say Emily. Like you a year ago could not have put on that event you a year ago could not have hosted this retreat like that’s pretty cool because you changed and you evolved to a point where you could actually create in a life changing experience that you couldn’t do before but in order for me to do that. I had to go through a season where I wasn’t really teaching right? and I wasn’t really doing a lot. I was doing the work I was doing one time a week deep somatic sessions I was in. Coaching relationships where I was working really hard I was consuming material specific to this. I was going to retreats I was getting out of my comfort zone. I mean these retreats sound. Oh so nice. You know Emily went to retreats actually saw some I saw some but some troll on here who was like all she talks about is her retreats. It’s not about. The retreat. It’s the experience that I went to was actually super uncomfortable to me both times like I didn’t want to do the things at that retreat because I was uncomfortable by it but I did it anyways because I knew I had to so I went through a season where I wasn’t teaching I wasn’t leading as much I was figuring it out.
I was still showing up for my company. But if you look at between October to January and then January I I launched my mastermind but I didn’t do a lot besides marketing things because I was in a season of learning and. Then I was able to move from that season into taking all of those tools and everything that I worked on and all the work I did and because I invested so much and I went so deep and I went so big I think I made progress that could have taken years in a matter of months and then I was able to create this new level. So now I recognize okay I have this new level like the standard has been changed The bar has been raised and this is the new level. But if I want to go to the next level I’m going to have to go into a season again of learning. And doing the work and I felt this shift after my retreat. I felt like okay like this is absolutely incredible and I also don’t want to keep doing the exact same thing. I want to up level it in order for me to do that. It actually starts with me right I can’t just be like oh I made it to the finish line and so. Where I’m going with this is I think as a leader as a creator as someone who wants to be an expert in your field. You must intentionally have seasons of learning and consuming and being more quiet and doing the work like.
Not the work that you need to show on Instagram all the time and tell everybody about the work but like heads down doing the work going deep facing the beliefs that you don’t want to face, facing the hard uncomfortable things and moving through those on your own and with other. Support coaches, mentors and experiences that you invest in for yourself then you’ll emerge from a season like that and you’ll have an entire new set of skills set of experiences standard that you can show up for and you get to bring that into everything you do and I think this ebb and flow is super important. And very often forgotten about because I think what happens is people have an experience initially where they do this. They have some sort of transformation, some sort of wake up calls some sort of like big thing and that’s what kick starts either their business or something in their business like for me that could be. This is what kickstarted my whole side of my business that’s now around the retreats in the mastermind and I could stop there and I could just keep hosting these retreats and kind of status quo keep doing that or I can say how do I want to take this to the next level. And I know that taking it to the next level starts with me and what is the work I need to do next because we’re always evolving. There’s never a finish line and so I think when you get really excited and you have that initial experience and you either start your business or you launch this new thing in your business and this happens all the time.
That leaders often times now get lost in the business side of it. They get lost and I gotta make the money and I gotta make the sales and let me put this to the max and they sometimes lose their capacity. They lose their. Commitment to their own growth which is what allows them to show up for the people paying them and looking to them to show up and they forget about that and so I had this realization after my retreat of like oh I need to spend the next two weeks between this retreat in the next one and after my Alaska one like making sure I have a lot of time to go inward a lot of meditation I’m like scheduling the sessions with my mentor that I’m not overpacking myself and ignoring. Work that I could do to better show up as a leader. So all this to say as a leader, especially as a creator or as somebody who directly coaches and mentors others I think it’s very important you recognize which season. You need to be in or you get to be in right now. Is it a season of getting quiet and pausing for a little bit and learning and doing work that again isn’t about sharing that work on Instagram it’s internal work between you and yourself.
You yourself god and maybe a mentor that’s it or is it a season where you’re emerging like you’ve planted those seeds and now they’re sprouting and you’re ready to go and you’re ready to leverage all that and it’s just time. And that’s going to ebb and flow and the seasons can be short. They can be long and what you don’t understand is logically oftentimes as entrepreneurs. We see the season of learning of learning and getting quiet and slowing down and pausing as unproductive. And I get it like raise my hand. I was there I understand even now I have to remind myself of that right? I want it all done. I want it done today I want it done yesterday I just want to be told exactly what to do and I don’t want to have to go through this process that feels oftentimes very fluffy or like. It doesn’t make sense to me now I get it because it’s an experience. It’s an embodied experience that once you understand it, you understand it. But if you’re like, well what’s the work. You know, give me this step by step, give me the manual that was me like that was me recently. And we can see that as unproductive because we are so programmed and it’s oftentimes our greatest strength as entrepreneurs. We’re programmed to be efficient, to be productive, to go to work to take action and all of that’s important and those things can’t.
Fulfill their greatest potential without the polarity of the other side of the spectrum which is pausing stillness, getting quiet going inward and learning and if you take the time to experience that side of the spectrum when it is called for. The other side of the spectrum when you go to take action and you go to implement and you’re in the doing mode and you’re in the showing up and you’re in that mode is going to be a hundred times more effective because you’re going to be more clear. You’re going to have more capacity and. You’re going to show up completely differently because you experienced both sides. Polarity is so important it exists everywhere. That’s like a big lesson I’m constantly reminded. It’s never black or white. It’s always in the middle. It’s always and it’s always both so. Felt called to do this episode and I’m not exactly sure why it’s something that I’ve personally been thinking about, been pondering and been realizing as I went through this new experience for myself. I think it is missing in our industry again. Not necessarily intentionally I think it’s not intentional. But I think it’s a conversation that needs to be had because I do think there’s a lot of very leaders that are within integrity who being told this would really resonate and make the space for it and understand the importance of it like it’s not just about you.
When you lead in this way. It’s not just about you having your time to meditate or you having your stillness so that you have peace. Yes, that’s very important, but it’s also how you show up as a leader for your team, for your clients, for your customers, for your audience you will show up better. And fully within integrity when you create that space in that polarity all right? My friends, I hope this was helpful and thought provoking. I would love if you want to share with me on Instagram anything that came up for you during this episode since it was one of those that I was like is this going to make sense.
Think it will so I’m just going to hit a record and I think it did so all right. Everybody have a beautiful rest of your day and I will talk to you on thursday.
