More content doesn’t equal better marketing or a winning strategy. You—your beliefs, values, and personality—do. Because when you are operating from an aligned version of yourself you will attract the right people and avoid burnout. In this episode, you’ll discover the four parts of my unconventional approach to organic marketing.
I’ll be sharing:
- Why you need a new definition of consistency.
- What your content strategy needs more than volume.
- How visibility ads allow me to spend less time on social media and still show up consistently online.
… and so much more.
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed in your business, it’s time for a change. Overwhelm doesn’t have to be your norm—in fact, it shouldn’t be. By embracing authenticity and depth, you’ll find, just like my clients and I have, that consistency and growth can happen with ease.
More isn’t the secret sauce to successful marketing—you are.
Tune in to uncover the most important element of your marketing strategy and learn how to leverage it without burning out.

Emily Hirsh:
Hello everybody, welcome back to the podcast. Some regularly tuned podcasts for this week. I am going to be bringing some changes to the podcast. I have some ideas. I would like to have more of my team who’s on the front lines be brought into the podcast so you can expect that coming. I also am going to be opening up either a way for you to submit written questions or even call a number and leave a message. I want to hear from you guys like specific marketing questions and things that you are struggling with and be able to respond to those. And then the other thing I’ve had a vision for for a long time, and it it might take me a little bit longer to pull this together, but I want to bring in probably in the format of an additional episode each week that is just structured in this way and is having just a conversation with somebody awesome. It could be an entrepreneur or just an awesome person. It would be in-person interviews. And I feel like with the way that I’ve had the podcast so far, you know, 600, whatever we’re on, almost 660 episodes, it is been all me, which has been great and easy because I can sit down and record very easily and I thrive on off the cuff conversational type of podcasts. But I think that there’s a piece of me that doesn’t get to come forward.
Because I’m not responding, like responding to your questions or responding to a conversation. And especially in a conversation, like a little bit more of my personality and my humor and just a little bit more connecting natural components. So if I did that, when I do that, it will be an additional episode since that won’t be like a marketing specific strategy. And then I want to bring my team on and really talk about like on the front lines, in the trenches, what’s working right now. So that’s kind of my vision for where we’re going to take this podcast. And I’ll also still have these type of episodes where I’m talking, creating the content myself. Yeah. I want to try a few different things and kind of bring some inspiration and freshen it up. So today’s topic is about organic marketing and my surprise, surprise, unconventional thoughts around organic marketing.
And this is a hot topic because whenever I talk about this on the podcast, it’s one of my top episodes. So you guys are really interested in not only organic marketing strategies, but how to leverage organic marketing in a way that doesn’t burn you out. And I think that’s a huge problem right now is people are so overwhelmed by the volume of things they need to do and specifically content they feel that they need to create this perceived pressure that they have and want to be told only do this. Like this is what you need to do to get results. So I want to talk about that because I really think that there’s so much misconception around organic marketing and so much unnecessary pressure and overwhelm that many, many entrepreneurs feel. And I think a lot of it stems from the other influencers and entrepreneurs who we follow oftentimes have quite a robust content team.
And so we are putting ourselves on that level as if we should be creating content to that volume and frequency and depth when we don’t need to do that and you’re most likely not in a place where you can have a four, five, six person content team. So therefore it’s not an equal comparison. And that just creates a constant feeling of inadequacy and pressure. So I recently read Alex Hermosi’s book, $100 million leads, which was a good book. I really loved his $100 million dollar offer book. I think better, but $100 million dollar leads is a great foundational marketing book. And he talks about his perspective on content and his perspective is very much volume. Like get on as many platforms and post as many times a day and that’s how you win. Two, three times a day and just like be everywhere, repurpose post and I even saw somebody, oh I can’t remember who it was. I think it was Neil Patel. He put out this video that said, you know if you can’t create specific content for different platforms, like something’s better than nothing, just put it on all the platforms. and I disagree with both of those things. I don’t think that creating content and coming from a place where your intention is just like almost like chaos. And let me just try to do as much as I can just because I think that’s going to bring me success. I really believe and see in my own content and with clients that depth wins over width.
Like if yes, you need to be consistent. Like that is true. You need to have some form of consistency, but that might look different for you than it does for me. You know, I might have the bandwidth to do a daily post and you might have the bandwidth to do twice a week pieces of content. But what’s important honestly is that there is a level of depth and heart that goes into the content. And I also feel that social media most of the time, not every time, because I do have some clients who crush it organically on social media, specifically the entrepreneur in my mastermind who I’ve mentioned, like her organic success is so extremely rare, but it’s one of the number one contributors to her success right now. But for most people, I feel that organic marketing is a losing game because you’re constantly fighting, which is what the platforms want us to have to fight over, which is the need for new because your post only has such a long lifespan.
It doesn’t have that long of a lifespan. It is posted within a couple of days, it’s irrelevant. And so what that does is it feeds this machine of constantly making you feel like you need to do new, you need to do new, you need to do more, you need to do more. And so what does that do? It gets you addicted to the platform, to creating the content, to showing up, to being on stories, and that’s what they want. And so I personally feel that if you can focus on maintaining consistency, but creating depth in your content and being able to create it from your heart, it’s going to do better. And I know that might, to some of you not ready to hear that, might be like, what the hell does she mean, create it from your heart? The posts that truly, the content and the posts and the pieces of social media, the videos, whatever, that come from your heart, you know what I’m talking about. That feels like it is moving when you create it. And every single post you create doesn’t have to change the world.
But it shouldn’t just be created from the intention of let’s just do as much as we can. Let’s just win at the volume game. Let’s just win at the duplication and repurposing game. And yes, there’s always a place for strategic repurposing and being really methodical with that process. Sure, I could probably do that better myself but the problem is that I like to create everything from my heart and not as a machine so I think that the intention matters a lot. The other thing that matters a lot with creating content is leveraging your strengths and what lights you up. Because I will tell you right now, it is a losing game if you feel dread about creating content, if you feel force, if you feel like you have to do this and you’re failing, if you don’t do it.
When you create from a place of force, it will never Number one, it will never come through as impactful content because that can over time or even immediately be felt by the audience. But number two, it’s always going to lead to you feeling burnt out, dreading content creation, and ultimately probably being inconsistent with it because you procrastinate it. And I think that the pieces of your business and especially content creation and showing up in the way that grows your business, if you’re procrastinating or dreading something, it’s not just because you’re a procrastinator. I actually think there is a real power in tuning into why am I procrastinating this.
Do I know deep down that this is not a priority or that putting my time and energy in this versus somewhere else is not actually a good decision? like let me Let me look into that a little bit more and see why I’m doing that. so Within your content creation, if you can leverage your strengths and what lights you up, whatever that is, you’re going to be more likely to easily be consistent with it. And it’s also going to come across much more authentic, much more natural, and ultimately connect better. So for some of you, that might be recording videos, that might be writing, that might be not creating a lot of social media posts, but doing some other form of content.
You know, what is it that if you could leverage your creativity and your art in the most leveraged possible way that feels easy and exciting for you, what would that look like? And that doesn’t mean not facing things that make you uncomfortable. Like you might be uncomfortable recording podcasts because you feel like you’re not good at it yet, but you love it and you’re excited for it. The other point that I had on my list to make here is that consistency is definitely important with organic marketing and marketing in general. Like attention is currency, as I talked about last week in my series. And so therefore in order to garner attention, we have to consistently show up, but consistency can’t swing all the way to the other side of the spectrum and equal burnout. And that’s the difference that.
Yes, you want to be consistent, but what does consistent look like for you and sitting down and having a real conversation with yourself of how can I set myself up for success to actually feel excited to connect with my audience in my content creation so that therefore I can show up consistently and not continually set myself up for a situation where I’m like, I don’t want to do this, so I’m just going to go silent for two weeks. And if you hit the point where you are feeling burnt out, and it’s funny because like the Emily a year ago would never say this. So this is what, one like, I just love this when this comes up. And the side note on content creation that I think is so cool is when you show up authentically and you create content and then you change, sometimes you’re going to go back and you’re going to contradict yourself.
And I saw somebody ask ah an entrepreneur I follow who I really respect Cody Sanchez and they asked her and said, are you afraid of creating so much content and then contradicting yourself in the future? And she’s like, no, because I’m always evolving and I’m always learning. And I have another mentor who says, I reserve the right to change my mind at any time because I might learn and gain more wisdom or experience that shifts what I believe. So, side note, but the old Emily would never say this and I’m saying it, which is if you feel burnt out, take a break. Like give yourself two weeks, give yourself a month. And I know that sounds,
crazy, right? Because it’s like, you need to be consistent, you need to grow your business. But I’m telling you, like even just a short one week, two weeks, you I took a month off the podcast. And the power of that pause, now I get to come back a hundred times more inspired, more clear, more excited, more willing to show up from my heart that I wouldn’t have been able to get to if I didn’t pause. And there is a lot of power in pausing that I never realized before. And I think it’s this not fine line, but it really all comes down to intention.
I can’t stress that enough because if you’re feeling burnt out and you choose to say, you know what? I’m going to go the next two weeks or I’m going to take a month off social media and I’m going to get clear on how I want to show up. I’m going to give myself the space. I’m going to give myself the permission to pause and I’m going to kind of see where that takes me. That’s a positive intention. That’s an intention coming from a place of wanting to grow your business and being intentional with that growth with the content with how you show up and actually using the pause to have an outcome. I’m going to pause to get clear. I’m going to pause to look deeper at how I want to show up. If you choose and say, I’m just not going to show up on social media for the next month because
I’m not prioritizing it. I’m scared to create content. I don’t believe I’m good enough and I’m going to avoid it and just not do anything to grow my business intentionally. That’s a completely different story with the same outcome. Right. So if you say, I’m going to just quit creating content and showing up, but you’re coming from a place of fear. Fear and discomfort that you’re not willing to face and hiding. That’s very different than being intentional with the pause, if that makes sense. so Sometimes it’s beneficial in a business if you are at that place of feeling that burnout. I’m saying, okay, what are the only things that are actually moving the needle in our business, in my business? And let me just pause a lot of the others and see what impact that has.
Because then, you know for example, if I paused my podcast and then I was like, that made zero difference in our sales and our traffic, maybe I would reconsider if I want to show up on the podcast. But when I pause the podcast, I know it makes a difference in our sales and my overall connection. And I was willing to take that sacrifice to give myself the four weeks off to come back stronger, but it was intentional. It wasn’t me saying I’m uncomfortable and I’m scared and so therefore I’m not going to show up. Okay. Two more things on my thoughts on organic marketing. I cannot stress enough how important creativity is and how important leveraging your unique creativity is in your content. like Your content should be your art. The way that you connect with your audience is your art, and you are unique. And so the more work you can do to identify how you can authentically show up and leverage that art, like what are the topics you talk about, how do you deliver it, your personality, your beliefs, your values,
The more strongly you can allow that space to come out, the better your content is going to be. That’s the number one driver because you’re going to attract the people who are naturally drawn to who you are. And we don’t have to change who we are and how we show up. We evolve. Yes, we grow. But the more you can show up fully as you, and it sounds cliche, I know, but that’s the secret to having massive attraction in your content. Last thing, I’ve got to mention visibility ads because this is one of my core parts of my marketing teaching and there’s a reason for it. Visibility ads are ads that you can put a small budget behind your content. So you could have a couple of podcast episodes, a couple of videos or reels or pieces of content that did well, or that you feel really good about attracting your cold audience and you can put five, $10 a day behind them and reach thousands of people and give that content now a lifespan of months versus two days. And now you show up in these news feeds every single day, all day, without having to actually be on social media. It is like my biggest marketing hack probably because it might feel like I’m on social media all the time. I’m everywhere. You see me in the feed all the time. It’s because I leverage ads.
I am willing to invest in ads to trade my presence and time not being on social media. so this is an ad Visibility ads are an ad that everybody can set up. like You don’t even have to have a fully done funnel. All you have to do is know your ideal customer because you can’t create content without knowing your ideal customer. And from there you can start to leverage and amplify this content that you’re already putting the work into to reach more people. So when I hear Alex Hermosy say things like, you know, make all these pieces of content post like two or three times a day, work 12 hour days and on all these different platforms, I’m like, why? How about I create like a quarter or less of the amount of content and I put a little bit of budget behind it and I get the same reach? I’m willing and able to value my time because think about how much time that would take to create that volume of content especially if I don’t have a five six person content team.
So I love visibility ads, recommend them to everybody. They are something we implement for all of our clients. And that leads me to one quick thing that I want to share, which is we just officially announced our live event happening in austin texas in october it will be october ten through twelve and it’s embodied marketing live and it’s truly an embodied experience because one of the things we’re gonna do on the third day is get visibility ads live for you in a workshop as well as we are going to have content created for you. So I’m going to have videographer, photographer on staff and like we’re going to create content live. So it’s a marketing event filled with workshops and information and trainings on creating the most successful marketing strategy, standing out from the noise, leveraging your authenticity, but we’re also going to implement.
And we’re going to have workshops where we actually get those things live. So if you’re interested, tickets are super affordable. There’s a general admission. There’s a VIP option.
