Emily Hirsh:
Hello everybody. Welcome back to the podcast. I hope you guys are having a fabulous day and week. I’m super excited because today in Austin, it’s the first day of fall in our world. I know like technically fall is here, but we have a high of 74 degrees and it’s currently chilly outside. I forgot what it felt like to be chilly outside to need a jacket like this is the first time since um April this year that we have felt this so Everybody here is very excited because now fall is actually here. We will still have 80 degree days but it’s like officially feels like that brisk air outside and I’m so grateful and excited just in time for my birthday weekend and All right, you guys, I actually thought about this podcast topic when I was driving the other day. A lot of times just content ideas drop in for me when I’m driving. I don’t know if that happens to you guys, but just drops in. It’s like the craziest thing. It’s this is what you should talk about. And it came from me just thinking about our most successful clients.
And I know that a lot of people follow me to get intel on what’s working because I have a behind the scenes view for a lot of successful businesses and ones that we support and can kind of gather data and Intel and thoughts and, you know, looking at what’s working, what’s not working, and what can I pull from all of these successful clients and gather, okay, this is what’s working. And we just had a client who did a launch and made over $750,000 in this single launch. And they are an incredible business. This is actually one of our VIP clients who gets access to me to support them with their marketing. And I adore them. They are incredible. And they have this wildly successful launch. And I have other clients, very successful launches. Now, obviously, there’s a scale of it doesn’t have to be a $750,000 launch you can have success in a $10,000 or $3,000 launch as long as it’s profitable and it’s something that we can scale. And so I was thinking about, you know, these clients who are having this massive success. And even if we go outside of my clients and you look at these companies who are doing tens of millions of dollars in this space, what are the things that they are doing that contributes to that success? Because all of you can learn from that.
And one thing that came to me as being more important now than ever is having a true brand presence. And I want to define this because I think that when people hear the word brand, they think, oh, it’s your font and your your colors and your the imagery of your business. Like it’s your branding, which obviously, yes, that plays a part in it, but I think that’s dictated by the things I’m about to say. All of these businesses are legitimate, successful businesses who stand on the foundation of having a very strong brand and very strong leadership to lead that brand. When I look at the CEOs of all of these companies who I personally work with, they are all very grounded, very strong in their values, in the mission that they have, in the experience and expertise that they bring, and also very willing and committed to always playing the long game.
And don’t get confused that, you know, this success means they had some sort of luck and they haven’t had to work really hard. Every single one of my extremely successful clients has gone through a season in the beginning of their business where they had to grind and they had to hustle and they had to get scrappy and they had to put in hours. Every one of them, like you don’t get to bypass that. All of these businesses are run by exceptional leaders and have a very solid foundation, a very solid brand within their space. So what does that look like? And this is what I sat down to to really think through. The first thing is they all have a very clear message. Like they are very clear on their values on who they are trying to attract. But even more than that, yes, who they’re trying to attract is very important. But they’re so clear on what they stand for, what they don’t stand for, what their process is. Like there’s passion in what they do. There’s passion in everywhere. It’s infused everywhere. Their social media content, their emails, any free experience or training, the products, the offers that they have. You come across this their brands and you can feel the experience, the expertise, the knowledge, the passion, the values, the leadership infused in everything. To me, that’s a big part of a brand.
What does the brand stand for? Who is it for? Who is it not for? What are the values? What are the processes they have? What are the expertise and experience that’s unique from this business, this founder that gets to be brought forward in everything that they do? And I want you to just think about some of the businesses that you follow in this space, some influencers or course creators or just overall entrepreneurs that you follow and that you look up to. I guarantee you that if you go to any of their social media, if you interact with their brand, you will instantly see they have such a strong presence, which comes from being very clear on their messaging, very clear on their values, very clear on who they are for, and honestly, just as important, who they are not for. Because I talk about this a lot, but the number one currency today is attention. And so how do you garner attention in a space that is oversaturated, overcrowded?
You have to be able to stand out. How do you stand out? You’re clear, so clear on your messaging, so clear on your values, so passionate about what you do. And I’m going to call something out here. And ah and I think that there are very powerful entrepreneurs with a lot of potential that have sometimes fallen into this, that I’ve seen this happen. I think in the online space, there is this story and this belief that you can create a very passive business. Like you as the founder and as the CEO don’t have to be very involved and don’t have to really lead the company in terms of the content and the messaging and everything I just talked about. And that I have never seen work, never. And so I’ve so i’ve watched talented entrepreneurs struggle month after month after month to create success because they are trying to create this idea of success where they barely have to be involved and ultimately that they don’t have to step up as a leader. And the reality is it doesn’t matter what coach you hire or marketing company or support or anything.
You have to lead your business. You have to set that foundation of what you stand for and really amplify your experience and gifts and your expertise within the brand. And nobody can do that for you. And because there’s this image of create this funnel, like repurpose things and just build this automated thing and then launch it, and it’s going to be super passive. I promise you that there is not one instance of that being wildly successful. There’s not because the brand is missing in it. And I’m thinking of an example where I watched this happen with an entrepreneur who a long time ago, it was in a group and I was a part of it and I kind of just watched it. And I actually didn’t say anything cause I didn’t ask for my feedback, but they had a lot going on and they were kind of like focused on a totally different thing, but they wanted this online component.
And they very much were like, okay, if I just hire the marketing, if I just throw together like some past stuff that I have and I create this automated funnel, like it’ll work. And it never worked because the leadership and the commitment and the foundation and passion never came from them. They didn’t put the time they didn’t have the time or the energy or the capacity to do that. And when I think about my most successful clients, even my successful clients who do have other things happening, like this client who had a massive launch, she has a whole other part of her business, but she still leads this company and leads the the voice and leads the the mission and the values of the brand and is willing to to show up for that for her internally, for her team, you know, for us because we’re her marketing team and then for all of her clients.
That’s what was missing from this, this other example. And they never created success and they couldn’t understand why. And it was like, i’m I’m checking the box. Like I’m hiring. They didn’t hire us, but I’m hiring the marketing support. And even if they did hire us, I would say we have to do this because you can’t not do this. They had the marketing support. They had all the boxes checked, but what was missing was the brand and the leadership from the CEO. When I also look at having a brand, some other things that i that I wrote out are obviously consistency. I think that if you are going into business and you are saying to yourself, if I’m not successful in this amount of time, vina and then I’m not gonna do this. You’ve already lost the game. Because when you go into business, when you decide to start a business or when you have a business, you have to be willing to say, I’m going to do whatever it takes. Like I am so committed to consistently showing up, to walking this path, to making the mistakes and learning from them, to growing my audience, to showing up, that there is no way success isn’t possible.
And I actually, when I think about some of my most successful students in my done with you program who are in a very different place than having a $744,000 launch, they’re in a different spot in their journey and haven’t made a lot of sales, but I can tell you. If you put me in a room with 25 entrepreneurs within an hour, I could tell you everyone who’s going to be successful and who’s not going to be successful because the only ones that are going to be successful are the ones who have the unwavering commitment to their success and to consistently showing up. I literally have members in my done with you program who are in the phase and in the season of their business where they’re doing garage sales to get enough money to be able to spend money on ads to invest back in their business. They’re getting scrappy. They are DMing people. They’re having conversations. They’re getting back up after a failure and then creating success from that.
I know without a doubt, every one of them is going to be successful. It’s just a matter of when. And they already are successful. They’re successful exactly where they are in their journey. But when you have people and entrepreneurs who come into this game and they want someone to come save them and they want it to be really easy and they don’t want to put a lot of energy into it, I can tell you right there, you’re not going to make it unless that changes. I’m getting like a little, I’m getting a little passionate. I’m getting a little ranty because people think having a business is like easy. It’s not easy. Now I do talk a lot about ease, which is very different. You still got to show up. You still have to walk through mud. Sometimes you still have to go through seasons, especially in the beginning where you have to get scrappy, where you have to be,
willing to do whatever it takes. And so when I look at those most successful businesses that I have, even that have a $744,000 launch, they are still have a commitment and unwavering commitment to their success. Like they get to the point where it’s like, this is a legacy. I’m going to do whatever it takes because my business and my mission is about so much more than just the money.
And I’m clear on that. And I’m committed to that. And when you get to a bigger level, that may that may not look like having to do garage sales to be able to fund a marketing budget, right? But it does look like maybe having to make a decision for a year from now where you invested in something, knowing it was going to pay off, but it didn’t pay off right away. You’re still making Investments, time, energy, and money into a bigger picture. Always with business, it just changes what you do as you shift levels and seasons. So having a brand, having a clear brand also means it is led by a founder who is willing to do whatever it takes and is also constantly willing to commit to the long game and understand the bigger picture beyond the money. Money and sales is a bright product of all of this. I don’t think enough people understand that, that sales and making money is actually very simple when you have all the other pieces in place. So having a brand is having that clear message, the clear passion, the experience of a founder, the unique gifts of someone. like Every one of you has experience and and components of you that nobody else has.
And in order for you to stand out and be successful, your marketing has to amplify that. Your business has to amplify that. You have to lean into that. You are not going to bring success by replicating what somebody else does because that’s somebody else who’s successful is leveraging their gifts, is leveraging their passion, is leveraging their mission, their message and has a brand that you you can’t replicate because any good successful brand has a uniqueness to it that nobody else can replicate. Nobody else is going to be that person. And then having a brand means having consistency when it comes to nurturing your audience, when it comes to all the major pieces of your marketing, content and social media, email marketing, lead generation, lead nurturing, live events, live experiences, DM conversations, connections with your audience. like All of these things are happening. and I talked about this in ah in an episode, I think it was last week, with all of these things, your social media, your lead generation, your visibility, nurturing all of them, make the goal consistency, at least for the first three plus months and the next three plus months, make the goal consistency and then see what happens as a byproduct of that.
Don’t get lost in, I’m only going to post on social media and create good content if I get this many followers. Or I’m only going to grow my list and run ads and get myself out there if I make this many sales a month. I’m not saying those things are not important. They are important. They are a scorecard. We we need those things to grow our business but too quickly to people quit the process because they’ve made the goal, the finish line before they’ve allowed themselves to go through the journey and committed to the consistency. If we compare it to fitness, it’s like, I would never say, well, unless I hit this number at my next CrossFit competition, I’m going to quit all my training. Like, no, if I don’t hit the number, I’m going to go back and I’m going to train harder. Or unless I finish my Ironman in this time, then I’m done with this. Like nobody would ever do that because it’s not how it works. You can have goals and the finish line, but consistency has to be the main focus, especially in the beginning. So all of these businesses that are successful, all of them show up consistently. All of them prioritize all of those areas of their marketing, content creation, email nurturing, email growth, visibility, live events. Like they have a brand. They create connection. They have a commitment to that. And they’re not like, I’m only doing it if I hit this number. No, it’s a non-negotiable because they’re committed to the bigger picture. They’re committed to the long game. They’re committed to their audience and their mission and their message and the uniqueness of their business, they have a true brand. So my question and invitation for you leaving this episode for your own business is, where’s the opportunity in my own brand? How could I get stronger in my messaging? How could I step more into my unique gifts? How could I really lead this company and and really make it a non-negotiable that I create success. I’m telling you guys, hands down, that is the biggest contributing factor. If you have an unwavering commitment to the success of your business and you stay open to the process, making consistency the goal, meaning if something doesn’t work out, you ask yourself, okay, what is this trying to teach me? Let’s keep going.
You will be successful. That is what it takes. That is all it takes. It’s only the people who are like, well, too hard, throw in the towel. Or, oh, that didn’t work out exactly how I wanted it to. And so I’m going to blame somebody else. Or I need somebody to come and save me. No, we need to take radical accountability for our business and lead it. Lead it externally with your audience. Lead it internally with a team. Or if you don’t have a team yet, like you’re leading yourself. So an invitation to look at where is there opportunity in my own brand and the conviction of my brand and the consistency of my brand and the power in my brand? And how could I really step into that role of a leader, of a CEO? Because the second you start looking at yourself that way and you hold yourself accountable, for your business growth and you see that you are the number one driving factor. And if your business is not successful today, I have a mentor who says something, she says, the best news is you’re both the problem and the solution. So if something isn’t working, what can you do to change it? It’s the most empowering thing. It’s how I look at my entire life. Instead of blaming others, it’s like, what can I do? What can I control? Because then I can, I can commit to my goals and I know I’m going to get there.
All right, guys, that got a little fiery, a little spicy. I hope you enjoyed it. I hope he gave gave you some things to think about. I would really, really sit with this. I would look at other brands, but not look at them for ideas. Look at them for, wow, how are they doing this? Like how are they leading their company? How are they amplifying their voice and their mission and their message and their values? How are they committing to consistency? And how can I do that in my own way in my business and really bring that power and that passion? All right, everybody, I will talk to you next week.
