You already know the answer. The challenge is that most entrepreneurs have been taught not to trust it.
In this episode, I’m sharing a story from a strategy call that reminded me why alignment matters so much in business. We talk about what happens when your brain is fried, when everyone has an opinion, and when you’re trying to decide between multiple good opportunities.
I also share my perspective on the success stories everyone is paying attention to right now, why copying someone else’s path rarely works, and how to come back to yourself when the external noise gets loud.
Because sometimes the most powerful thing you can do for your business is stop looking for another answer and listen to the one that’s already there.
Key Takeaways
- Why you should ignore strategy and best practices until you ask this
- The question I go back to when my brain is fried and every option looks good
- Why most entrepreneurs have it backwards (and what a $1.2M launch taught me)

Emily Hirsh:
If someone goes, “Okay, I see this person’s success. They made $1.2 million doing this. I’m gonna copy what they did. I’m gonna replicate what they did, maybe even in my own way.
Maybe I’m gonna make my own challenge. I’m gonna make my own 297 challenge. I’m gonna do this.” But they’re not actually aligned with it. The root of it has to come from you.” Because if you in business are choosing to go a direction and it’s not in alignment with you, it’s not gonna work. I can guarantee you it’s not gonna be successful.
Embodied CEOs don’t chase trends. They pave the way they lead from within. Move by purpose, unshaken by noise. When you are the source, you do not need permission.
Hello, everybody. Welcome back to the podcast. I hope you guys are having an amazing week. I’m feeling in, I don’t know, such alignment, but also, You know when everything is just clear? You have a question and then the answer drops in, or you just feel super in momentum and aligned. Aligned is the best word. That is the experience that I’m having right now. I actually am a partner in a new company that I’m gonna definitely turn into some really good content and talk about the launch of that company and the lessons and just the experience of launching a new company with a decade of business experience under my belt and the use of AI.
And just, it’s just a wild experience. I’m a partner in it, so I’m actually not the operator of the company. I’m a partner in it. I’m like the strategist, the marketing side of it, and it’s in a completely different industry. So it doesn’t really complement Embodied Marketing, but there’s core messaging and components of Embodied that are coming over into it.
So I’m almost ready to talk about it and announce it, but not yet. And definitely I don’t think any of you are gonna guess it. It’s gonna be like, “That is out of left field.” But there’s a really cool story with it. and there’s gonna be a lot of content, ’cause even though it’s not in the exact industry, there are so many lessons that I can teach because I’m now in this phase of a new business and the thing that I’m doing with the messaging and the offer and all these things.
And so it’s getting a percentage of my time right now, but the whole point is I have a partner who’s running a lot of the day-to-day, the operating of the company, because I just can’t do that. I can’t be a CEO of two companies. It doesn’t make sense. It’s not strategic.
Neither will do if I do that, so I’m more investor but also strategist and president is what we’re calling me, not the CEO. So anyways, I wanted to talk today about two things. I am inspired to talk about these two things and bring this message to you based on conversations that I’ve had recently with other entrepreneurs, That I think that you will all benefit from. So I just got off a client call. I was on a client VIP call. Once a month I meet with this team, and my team runs all their ads. They’re a VIP client, so they do everything from we do their social media, we do their regular emailing of their list, we manage their promotion calendars, we do all of their marketing, all of their funnels, all of their ads.
They’re a bigger company and they get me at a high level involved in their strategy. So I just got off our monthly call, and they have a bigger team and so it’s our team plus their team. And if you’ve ever been on a meeting like that, there’s a lot of players who have thoughts. They have ideas.
They have opinions. And we were talking about bigger picture, like scaling ideas and having a really good conversation about, here’s where the business is at, here’s where we want to take it, and actually to get there, we need to do less but better and not try to overextend ourselves, which is a very common problem that I think we have as entrepreneurs is we think the answer sometimes is more.
More growth. We need to do more. We need to launch more funnels. We need to launch more offers. We need to put more things out there. When you’re scaling a business, and this business is already at seven figures, when you’re scaling this business, the answer is actually usually not more. It’s on pulling the levers, that are going to make the biggest impact.
And it’s like this thing where you could go and do a lot of different ideas. You could execute launching a new product. You could execute a new launch. You could execute a lot of things, and this is what I said on the call. They will probably all be successful. But what one is gonna be the most successful?
Because we can only put our time and energy to that level into one. And so we have to figure out which one is gonna move the needle the most so that we’re all aligned, our team resources, their team resources, and the CEO’s resources all go into the same thing. So this turned into this big conversation because there was a lot of ideas.
There was a lot of “Okay this part is working, this part isn’t. We’ve implemented this, but we haven’t seen the fruits of this yet. Here’s what we know is doing well, but how could we scale it?” Just one of those, not chaotic conversations but where your brain starts hurting. And I am on this call, and I– everyone’s g-going, different people, Their salespeople, the CEO, everyone’s talking, we’re talking, I’m talking, account manager. Not like talking over each other, but just everyone had input, right? And it can… That can turn into a two-hour call. So we’re getting to, like, where we’re going over the call, and I just paused everybody.
And I was like, to the CEO, I looked straight at her and I was like, “Pause everything. What does your gut say? Get out of your head around the logics of this and the best business practices and what you know.” And she’s been in business, I think, close to 10 years. So wh- what you know and that overthinking, I could tell we’re, like, we’re getting into overthinking.
And I paused everybody, everybody went quiet. And I said to the owner, “What does your gut say?” And she stopped and she closed her eyes, and then she answered the question. And I said, “Then that’s what we do.” Because there’s no reason why that’s not gonna be successful. That’s what we focus on because that’s where you feel the most drawn to.
Energetically, a CEO understands their business, their team, their audience, and everything better than anybody else could. Better than my team could. Our job is to amplify that. And while I could list out, f- negatives or flip sides to that idea, that’s what her gut told her. And she said, “My gut is telling me this, and here’s why.
And I know it goes against this best practice. I know it goes against this kind of business rule logically, but here’s what my gut says.” And also, what I could tell is when she was talking, that’s where she felt inspired. That’s where she felt this you could feel it in the energy. She felt the ease and a lightness and an excitement to go put into that.
And so I stopped everybody and I was like, “That’s what we’re gonna do. That’s the answer right there. And here’s what we have to do to make that incredible.” And it just simplified the whole conversation because the conversation… we went in eight different directions of products we could launch, new funnels we could do, things we could change, right?
It was a brainstorming call. That was the point of it. And that just closed it in. And I was like, “That’s what we do. Here’s how we make it successful. Here’s what our team owns, and this is what you guys own to make it successful.” And that just brought instant clarity on the call.
And at the end of the call, what I said to her, ’cause we were like 10 minutes over, and I was like, “All right, we have our plan. This is a longer-term plan. This is a quarterly plan. Let’s focus on what we can m- move the needle and pull the lever the most for the business right now. Start working on the quarterly plan.
Here’s the things we need to do, da.” And I said, “Listen, I want you to spend this weekend, I want you to get out of your head, I want you to tune into your body, tune into your heart and what you already know, and pull out any answers, any clarity you need. Bring it to us, and our job is to amplify that.
And if you need to bounce stuff off me, let’s get on another call, that’s fine. But the root of it has to come from you.” Because if you in business are choosing to go a direction, let’s say launch a product or launch a new funnel or do a webinar or do a challenge or whatever, and it’s not in alignment with you, it’s not gonna work.
We’ve recently had in the online space this success story of Jessie Gene, and I’m not gonna analyze it. I actually know her and I’m so excited and so happy for her, and there’s so many lessons in what she did, which was with a 397 product or 297, $1.2 million launch, the YAP Challenge, incredible.
So cool. However, I’m not even gonna talk about that because there’s so many people analyzing it and what I do wanna say is there is gonna be a lot of entrepreneurs who see that and go, “Okay, now I need to launch a $297 product or a challenge, or I need to start making YAPPING videos every day.” And the point is not what she did.
It is she created something that was… checked so many boxes, was in alignment with her, used her natural gifts. She had a long time, a warm audience, whatever. The point is this.
I’m gonna do this.” But they’re not actually aligned with it. . The root of it is not coming from alignment within them. I can guarantee you it’s not gonna be successful. So this is my encouragement to you, to…
this is my whole thing that I do in our live events that people don’t understand, is connect you back to yourself. Because I am telling you as an entrepreneur, as anybody, anybody operating in the world, but especially as an entrepreneur, this is one of the most powerful things you can do for your success, because it is the magic.
It is the magic, the clarity, the inspiration, the creativity, the authenticity, the expression that nobody else has. And it takes intention and discipline to be connected to that and to stay connected to that. Because the noise, the external noise, when you just scroll social media, when you have a business coach, when you’re in a mastermind, when you’re in a Facebook group, when you see things online that worked, and the noise is constantly pulling you away from this and distracting you from yourself.
How do you do it? It is simple, but not always easy for people, right? It’s easier to get sucked up in the noise. It’s easier to look for other people to tell you what to do. Collaboration is great. My client on this call, collaborating and throwing out ideas and hearing my response and getting people to resist against you and get you to think and get you to question and ask you the right questions, amazing.
But people who go, “I’m telling you, this is the right way, and this is the only right way to grow your business,” or whatever, run from that. Because the job is to bring you back to yourself, to what you do already know. I have hats that say that. I believe that. And this takes discipline because it is easier to try to get somebody else to answer it for you, to get somebody else to plan it for you, to replicate what somebody else is doing and not have to put your own, thinking into it and heart into it.
But it’s actually really simple to continue to have this connection with yourself. It takes, in the small moments, it takes a pause. It takes, when I’m on that client call with my client, and I can see that she’s just she’s just thinking right? Her brain’s fried. And I can see that she’s running things, and she’s not feeling clear for…
you know when you get in those moments, and you overwhelm starts to set in? It’s in that moment that what you do is you pause. You pause close your eyes, take a breath, and go, “Okay, what do I know?” Get out of my head, which is running all the scenarios and trying to predict the future and trying to go back to what happened in the past and going, “What if?”
And now you’re overthinking. You’re not gonna find an answer there. Go back, close your eyes, pause five seconds, And ask yourself, “Okay, what is my gut saying?” And then the answer comes so fast you couldn’t even think about it. That’s the answer. And it’s never the wrong answer.
You take that, and you can feel it. If you think I sound crazy, trust me , you can feel alignment in your body. It feels like ease. It feels light. It feels exciting, electric sometimes. And the opposite of that is it feels like you’re white-knuckling. It feels like you’re trying to force something. You feel confused.
You feel resistance. When you feel that, that is your invitation to pause in those moments. They might come up five times in a day. It might not come up for a week. You have to learn that signal, and I’m telling you, if you do, your entire life and your entire business will change. And it’s not a one-time thing.
You don’t just learn to connect to yourself and learn to listen to that. You have to constantly remind yourself, and you’re gonna get away from it, and then you’re gonna be like, “I forgot. I forgot. Let me come back to this.” So such a huge part of my events, of my work and my mastermind, of my retreats that I run is this because people don’t understand it until they do.
And I have, the women I get to work with in my mastermind where a lot of times… Like for example, a week ago, two weeks ago, one of them asked me a question about what they should do And they said kinda, “Here’s the situation. Here’s who it would impact if I made this decision. Here’s the impact if I made this decision,” da.
They had a five-minute voice message in our Telegram chat. And my answer back was, “Here’s my thoughts, but let me just ask you first, when you close your eyes and you, tune into your gut, what is your answer? What feels like the most aligned, light, and clear answer to you?” And guess what?
Immediately, she came back. She had the answer. She’s ” This is what it is. When I think about doing this, I feel super aligned. I feel like it’s easy. It feels like weight lifted off my shoulder. There’s the answer.” And she’s she sent me a message and said, “Thank you so much. I have never had a mentor continually turn me back to myself and what I know, and it’s changing my life because it’s changing how I operate in other areas of my business.”
And it sounds simple, but we are so conditioned to find the answers and the validation outside of ourselves that we forget this. Even I forget it, and I need to be reminded by mentors all the time. So I wanna note right now we have tickets on sale for Embodied Marketing Live, and while this isn’t oh, we ha- we do a workshop on this is infused in the entire experience, is pulling you out of the day-to-day of your business and the way you think, the way you operate, the beliefs you operate from how you make decisions, and this vision that you have that isn’t necessarily reality.
You just operate in that vision. Pulling you out of that, putting you in an experience where we overhaul your marketing strategy, we overhaul your messaging, we create content ideas, we talk about AI in your business. We go deep in several different workshops so that you can implement. But the through line of it is a consistent connection back to yourself so that you leave feeling so aligned, so inspired, and creative, and ready to go implement in your business.
A lot of people, like, when you’re in a stage in your business where you’re stuck, like you can’t make a decision or you’re thinking about things over and over, and you’re like, “I just, I’m not clear. I’m stuck. I may be doing things. They’re not getting results,” it’s an, it is this. It is an alignment thing, And that’s where the invitation is to pause and come back to yourself. You have to teach yourself this. So I felt really inspired to share this today because it was just a really powerful moment on this call where this multiple seven-figure CEO was on a powerful marketing strategy call with my team, her team.
We were talking about big picture ideas, every… Lots of brain, really smart brains. And the other thing with this is there’s no right or wrong answer to this. And that’s what I said to her. I said, “We could choose several of these paths, and all of them could be good paths because we can make them good paths.
If you can find the most aligned thing, it will be that much more powerful. And so pausing that and just staring straight at her and going, “What’s your gut say?” And she was like, closed her eyes, answered, and was like at the end, “Thank you so much for asking me that question and saying that because I needed that reminder.”
And maybe you need that today, ’cause I think we all do. So if there is something that you have been spinning in your mind “Do I launch this new offer? Do I launch this strategy? Do I do this? Do I put my attention here?” Those are decisions that as an entrepreneur we’re faced with sometimes multiple times a day.
There are decisions that I have to make some days so many of them. And then sometimes there’s bigger decisions, right? Bigger pivots of do we put focus here? Do we launch this offer? Do we stop this offer? Do we do this? And if you find yourself in a state when you’re making that decision of overwhelm or lack of clarity, that is your signal.
So this is your permission. Whatever that is right now for you, whatever decision that is or thing you’ve been thinking about or thing you’ve been trying to get the answer to outside of yourself from a coach, from a program, from somebody else, tune inward because you have the answer. You just need to understand that connection and know what that connection feels like.
And then the second thing is be really careful about taking something that you see somebody else have success with and thinking, “If I do that, I’ll be successful.” You have to have, one, alignment, and two, make it your own. So this Jessie Gene thing, you can pull ideas from it. You can look at it and look at the core characteristics and principles and things that she did.
You can pull that out of it and then say, “How do I make it my own? And how do I become aligned with it?” Or you can say, “That’s really cool, and I’m not aligned with it.” Like I can tell you I’m not creating a 297 offer right now. So I can look at it and go, “Cool. Here’s what she did well. Here’s why this is so awesome.
Here’s, a learning I could take from it or feel inspired,” but it doesn’t mean I have to do what she’s doing to be successful. And I think especially in the beginning stages of business and entrepreneurs who haven’t found success yet to the, to where they want it, they don’t trust themselves, and so they outsource that trust, and they think they have to become somebody else to be successful.
They have to follow somebody else’s template. And while, yes, there are best practices and principles and golden rules to business and marketing that you will figure out as you go, and I’m seeing as I build this new company, it’s like I know exactly what we need and what the pathways are because I’ve been in the arena building a company for 10 years, and the only way I can learn that is actually by doing that.
So there are those things, right? There’s best practices and principles that are great to remember. And then underneath that is a constant connection back to yourself. And some of the greatest entrepreneurs in this world, that is how they lead. That is what a visionary is. That is what somebody who leads through inspiration, leads through ideas that haven’t been thought of before, and creativity, and their unique essence and expression is what is leading their business.
And anybody successful, you can pull that out and say that they’re doing that. So do not lose that in the process of building your own business. There’s my message for you guys today. Hopefully this was helpful. I felt really inspired leaving that call to share it because I just think it is something that we need to be reminded of every single week all the time.
And I would love to see you at embodied Marketing Live. It’s July 30th through August 1st, embodiedmarketing.com/live. You can get your tickets. We’ve got a handful of tickets left, and my intention, and it will come true, is we are selling out our tickets of, at 50. And this event is truly like I can’t fully put words behind it.
If you go to that page, you’ll see the video of past attendees. But it is such a beautiful blend of tactical marketing and business strategy that goes really deep, that customizes it to your business and exactly what you need in that moment, with growth and alignment and inspiration that you probably don’t even know you need.
And a lot of people walk into the room thinking, “This is exactly what I need,” and they get that plus so much more that they didn’t realize they’d need. And you’ll see that.
